Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Gujarat on August 25 and 26, during which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for projects worth more than ₹5,400 crore. The visit will begin with a public event in Ahmedabad where a series of initiatives spanning infrastructure, energy, transport, and urban development will be launched. A major highlight of the tour will be his visit to Suzuki Motor’s Hansalpur plant, where he will inaugurate the domestic production of hybrid battery electrodes. He will also flag off exports of Suzuki’s first Battery Electric Vehicle, the e-VITARA, which is being sent to over a hundred international markets including Europe and Japan. This milestone is being seen as a significant boost to the Make in India campaign and India’s efforts to establish itself as a global hub for green manufacturing.
Rail infrastructure will receive a major upgrade with investments exceeding ₹1,400 crore. This includes the doubling of the Mahesana–Palanpur line, gauge conversion of routes like Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road and Bechraji–Ranuj, and the introduction of new passenger and freight services. These developments are expected to strengthen industrial corridors, improve passenger movement, and generate new employment opportunities. Road connectivity is also being expanded with the improvement of the Viramgam–Khudad–Rampura road, the construction of a six-lane underpass on the busy Ahmedabad–Mehsana–Palanpur corridor, and a new overbridge on the Ahmedabad–Viramgam route to reduce traffic congestion and improve accessibility.
The visit will also mark progress in the power sector, with more than ₹1,000 crore allocated to modernize electricity distribution in northern Gujarat. The upgrades aim to provide more reliable and resilient power supply to households and industries, particularly in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar. Alongside this, multiple urban development initiatives are being taken up, including slum redevelopment under the PMAY (Urban) scheme, widening of key roads, and the establishment of new public service buildings such as a Stamps and Registration office in Ahmedabad and a State-Level Data Storage Centre in Gandhinagar to strengthen digital governance and citizen services.
These projects are expected to deliver wide-ranging benefits. Improved rail and road networks will enhance the speed and efficiency of both passenger and goods transport, reducing costs and boosting productivity. The launch of electric vehicle exports will help India take a lead role in the global green mobility market, while modernized power infrastructure will improve industrial competitiveness and support sustainable growth. Slum redevelopment and new administrative facilities point to an inclusive model of urban development, where modernization is combined with social equity and better governance.
The Prime Minister’s visit thus represents not just a series of project launches but a comprehensive push to strengthen Gujarat’s economic foundations, enhance quality of life, and position the state as a key contributor to India’s broader development vision. With investments spread across multiple sectors, the initiatives launched during this visit are expected to create lasting impact on industry, urban life, and India’s position in global markets.
